Idlib, May. 21 (SANA) Four children were killed and three others injured in an explosion caused by landmines and war remnants inside a rainwater collection well in the village of Abu Habbah in the eastern countryside of Idlib.
The explosion occurred while children were playing and throwing stones into the well, triggering the detonation, according to local reports.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Civil Defense said its teams affiliated with the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Idlib transported the victims’ bodies to the nearest hospital, while local residents transported the injured children to medical facilities for treatment.
Large areas across Syria continue to suffer from the widespread presence of landmines and unexploded remnants of war left behind by the deposed regime, making them a constant source of deadly incidents. These remnants also hinder civilians’ return to normal life, threaten agricultural and educational activities, and prevent thousands of families from returning safely to their villages.
